An Efficient Algorithm for Suppression of Impulsive Noise in Color Images

چکیده

A new effective algorithm for removing impulse noise from color images is proposed. First, a color image is transformed to the YCbCr color space that perfectly separates the intensity and color information. Next, outliers are detected using spatial relations between transformed image components. The detected noise pixels are replaced with the output of a modified vector median filter over a spatially connected area excluding the outliers, while the noise-free pixels are left unaltered. The results of simulation in a test color image show a superior performance of the proposed filtering algorithm as compared to the conventional vector median filter. The comparisons are made using a mean square error, a mean absolute error, and a subjective human visual error criterion.
